Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)


The Economic and Social Council has 54 members, elected for three-year terms by the General Assembly. The term of office for each member expires on 31 December of the third year. The United Republic of Tanzania membership will expire on 31 December 2006.  Tanzania has also been a member in the years 1966-69, 78-80, 94-96 and 2004-2006.

Participation in Functional Subsidiary Bodies of ECOSOC

The United Republic of Tanzania is currently a member to the following Functional Commissions, and Committees of ECOSOC:

Commission for Social Development (CSocD) 2005-2009, Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) 2005-2009, Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) 2006-2009, United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF), Committee for Development Policy (CDP)

The United Republic of Tanzania has been a member in the following bodies of ECOSOC:

Commission on Human Rights (CHR) 1961-1976, 1983-1985, Commission on Population and Development (CPD) 1993-1996, Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) 1989-1992, 2001-2005, Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) 1994-1996
